Sherlock is an iteration of the story of Sherlock Holmes, originally by Sir Arthur Doyle, with a twist, taking place in 21st century London. Sherlock goes on a plethora of adventures with his partner, John Watson. Throughout the 90 minute episodes, bonds form between both Watson and Sherlock and their mutual love for mystery.

Stranger Things

A show that encompasses mystery, Stranger Things is about the disappearance of a child
other bizarre occurrences including seemingly malevolent government agencies. The whole town becomes involved, hoping to unravel the conundrum.

The Office is an adaptation of the original U.K. version that follows a low-key paper company in Scranton, PA, led by branch manager Michael Scott. While exploiting day to day happenings at the office itself, the show also delves into each co-worker’s life, inevitably exposing humor, romantics, and drama.

How I Met Your Mother

Stars: Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan

Network: CBS

How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) is about a father, Ted Mosby, telling his children the story of how he met their mother… through 9 seasons. While lengthy, you’re left wishing that there was more. HIMYM brings together aspects of family, romance, and humor. If you like this show, you might want to check out Friends and 30 Rock (They have very similar comedic styles).

Parks and Recreation

Stars: Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza, Rashida Jones

Through 7 lovely seasons, Parks and Recreation brings together the idea of family, humor, and politics. It is revolved around Leslie Knope, a passionate bureaucrat working at the Parks Department in a fictional town in Indiana, along with all of her fellow co-workers and friends.

Dark Comedy

Arrested Development

Stars: Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera

Networks: Fox, Netflix

Michael Bluth is the son of a fraud committing father who is forced to fix the family business while simultaneously fixing the family after his father is imprisoned. A show that provides a lot of laughs, Arrested Development will take you on a humorous and amusing trip.

Bojack Horseman

Stars: Will Arnett, Aaron Paul

Network: Netflix original

Bojack Horseman tells the story of a retired horse, Bojack, from the 90’s sitcom “Horsin’ Around”. Taking place in Los Angeles, this cynical dark-humored comedy is comical, depressing, and thought provoking. Despite the lack of character arc development, the show makes up for it by really delving into character’s attributes themselves.
