Winter Formal is Coming

Although it’s never winter in LA, the closest thing to winter is coming to Notre Dame High School. And it’s arriving on Saturday, February 10th from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Take your, “Time After Time”, to ask that special someone or your friends to sweep the dance floor with you at Notre Dame’s 2018 Winter Formal!
“Time After Time” is the theme this year and ASB is working to flash it back to the 50s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. And yes, you did read that right, the 60s is not included. Why, you might ask? We don’t know either. This year’s theme ASB wants us to celebrate the essence of time and music. Cate Plunkett ‘19 said “When we started thinking about what we wanted our theme for this years formal, we knew we wanted it to be different than the past few years… we decided to do something that hadn’t been done before and that’s how we came up with the idea of Time After Time, Dancing Through the Decades. We loved the idea of all the different decades coming together for one special and unforgettable night.” We’ll experience decades unfamiliar to us for one night under a disco ball.
Although the theme and music are different, ASB “decided that the attire should remain the same and reflect the traditional formal attire” said Plunkett ‘19.
This year, Junior ASB has decided to change up the music. This year, the music will be songs from the 20th century, 50s-90s: doowop, early rock n’ roll, and R&B. “We felt that rap songs are a little hard to dance to.” -Andrea Karkafi ‘19. While this only applies to some, it will be hard for other students to adjust their ears to a new era of music. “Guys and girls want to dance to fun music and dancing to the 60s and 70s music isn’t that fun. It’s not music that anyone knows. It’s hard to dance to music you don’t know” – Julia Rondan ‘20. In the end, we are all there to have fun and get our boogie on.
Along with the music, ND students who sweat crazily after each song are in for another treat. Water won’t be the only thing keeping their energy this year because thanks to Dean Osbern, Notre Dame is bringing in the pizza along with other drinks, like lemonade and soda.
Make sure to buy your ticket by Wednesday, February 7th for free dress on Thursday, February 8th.
