Whether you’re happy, anxious, or have mixed feelings about life returning back to normal after quarantine, many can agree that there was at least one great reoccurring moment during the lockdown; these were the days when you’d hop onto the couch with all kinds of junk food in hand, no responsibilities, and turned on your favorite TV show to binge, whether it be Tiger King, The Queen’s Gambit, or any of other amazing shows that 2020 provided us with. 

    With adults now going back to work and students returning to school, people are probably finding themselves with less time to watch tv than they used to. 

    However, with all the exciting shows that are coming out this Fall season, you’re going to want to sit back down on that couch and get comfortable, because you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen. 

    The riveting Ryan Murphy produced FX anthology called Impeachment: American Crime Story, shares the account of the chaotic events resulting in President Bill Clinton’s 1998 impeachment. It’s told mostly from the perspective of Monica Lewinsky, played by Beanie Feldstein, and Linda Tripp, portrayed by Sarah Paulson. 

    Because the students at Notre Dame were not alive during the time of the impeachment and may not know all the details, it’s a thrilling experience to watch the story unfold without knowing exactly what will happen next. 

    The popular TV show among teenagers, Sex Education, available on Netflix, returned for its third season in September. It’s filled with quirky humor and relatable high school experiences, following the drama of relationships and friendships of the complex characters. 

    The show is very progressive and inclusive of actors that are apart of the LGBTQIA+ community who play gay, questioning, and non-binary characters. Due to the amount of mature content featured in the show, the recommended age for viewers is 16+.

    Josie Lafontant ‘23, a huge fan of Sex Education, has lots of positive feedback on the show. “I think the characters are written really well. I like how it explores sexuality and celebrates our differences. It shows the home lives and backgrounds of all the characters in such a great way.”

    Squid Game is a South Korean fictional drama in which hundreds of debt-ridden citizens compete in children’s games, for a large cash prize, with wildly high stakes. Ranking No. 1 on Netflix in just four days after its September 17th premiere, the show is an absolute sensation. 

    The juxtaposition of childhood games with the violent twist, mixed with tragically heartfelt moments, has caught the attention of viewers world-wide. The age recommendation for viewing is 16+ and a trigger warning is necessary, as the show involves heavy violence. 

    Lauren Pierson ‘23, says, “It was interesting and weird, but in a good way. It kept me on the edge of my seat and there are no other shows like it.”

    The Premise is a comedic anthology from The Office’s B.J. Novak, that features a different story each episode, covering social and political topics; everything from gun control to capitalism, to social media. Lucas Hedges, Tracee Ellis Ross, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ben Platt are few among many talented actors featured in the show.  

    Along with these incredible shows, there are dozens more to look forward to being released in the next few months. 

    Among them is the new series, I Know What You Did Last Summer, based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. It follows a group of teenagers who are stalked after a fatal accident. 

    The Shrink Next Door, starring Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell, is a dark comedy inspired by the true story of a psychiatrist who becomes overly involved in his patient’s personal life.

    Dozens of other shows we already know and love, such as Ozark, Euphoria, Love Life, and Insecure, also have us awaiting new seasons to come. 

    With that said, it’s easy to say we have enough television to keep us entertained and glued to our TV screens for a good while!
