Margaret Burroughs is a renowned artist and activist, known for her prints depicting themes of community, history, and identity. In 1941, she co-founded the South Side Community Arts Center, which became a hub for the Chicago Black Renaissance movement. Later, she also established the DuSable Museum of African American History. Both centers created opportunities for Black artists to display their work in the community, a mission close to Burroughs’ heart.
